These three beaches are minutes away! But, there are many other spectacular beaches to visit.
Hoopers Bay Beach - Just steps away from Clementina’s Cove, Hoopers Bay Beach offers pristine sands and crystal-clear waters, ideal for swimming, snorkeling, or simply soaking up the sun. Walk down the driveway and turn left on Queen’s Highway. Walk past the small retail building and several houses and you will see the Beach Access sign on the left and a small narrow path leads down to the beach. Conversely, parking is available in a small strip opposite the beach access sign.Jolly Hall Beach - Jolly Hall is one of our favorite beaches. Head 1 mile south (approximately 5 minutes from the villa) towards Georgetown and past AID (green-white striped building), look for the Beach Access sign on the left near a trash enclosure and stone steps. Parking is on both sides of the road - be cautious crossing! Jolly Hall Beach is a spacious and sparsely populated beach with ample shade trees. The large shallow water area allows for easy snorkeling and the calm clear water of the bay is perfect for beach goers of any age and swimming skills.
Tar Bay - Tar Bay is an immaculate two mile long beach which is perfect for taking a relaxing walk. Explore the reefs right offshore, which are full of marine life in the translucent waters. Tar Bay is centrally located along the beach side of Exuma, between the airport and Clementina’s Cove. Parking is available in the lot opposite the intersection of Moss Town Road and Queens Highway - look for the colorful new EXUMA sign!

There are no fast food chains on Exuma. There are many locally owned restaurants to enjoy. Most restaurants are casual and more than a few are waterfront! Be prepared to relax and enjoy dining on local fare such as fish, lobster, crab, conch, peas n rice, and mac n cheese. Burgers, chicken, wraps, and pizza are also available in a number of restaurants. Bahamian beer (Kalik and Sands) and rum-based beverages are popular on the island.

The house is connected to public electric. However, a ground mount solar array generates clean electricity for the needs of the entire house including the pool equipment.
From the beginning of dreaming about this project, we knew we wanted to take advantage of Exuma’s abundance of sunny days! Plus, our son is an engineer in the renewable energy space with a focus on solar!
During the design process, we considered factors that could limit our demand for energy. We worked with our architect and builder to incorporate a few traditional Caribbean building techniques such as position the house to take advantage of the ocean breeze to cool the house, design windows and doors to be covered by overhangs for shade, and utilize a covered porch for shaded outdoor living space.
Other energy efficient features include:
LED and efficient lighting throughout, which use 1/6th to 1/10th of the electricity of a normal bulb
Spray insulation in the roof increased the R factor
1 variable speed pool pump which uses less energy than a single speed system since it raises and lowers the speed as needed instead of operating on the same speed all day
White metal roof reflects a significant amount of sunlight helping to keep the building cooler by reducing heat absorption
Walls are constructed with ICF (insulated concrete form) walls. ICF homes require less energy to heat and cool as compared to block and frame houses.
Efficient tankless hot water heaters (2)
Use of ductless mini split systems as compared to central air offers cooling efficiencies that are significantly greater because of a lack of ducts, and use only when the space is occupied.
We have hooks and towel bars in bathrooms so you can hang up towels to dry and reuse.

Renting a car is highly recommended. You will receive a detailed Welcome Book upon booking that includes information on car rentals. All of our guests rent cars for the duration of their stay and it is the best and easiest way to explore the island. Generally, it is quite easy to navigate the island as almost everything is located on or very close to the main road Queen’s Highway which extends the length of the island. Roads to several of the beaches are rough, so we suggest a small SUV. Car rental companies are located at the airport or are located offsite and will bring a car to the airport.
REMEMBER TO DRIVE ON THE LEFT!
Tip: Rent well in advance of arrival.

Tiny bugs called “No See Ums” frequently come out at dusk for about an hour, especially on calm days with no wind. We recommend using bug spray or baby oil to keep them away.

Service on the island is pretty great and there are a surprising number of cell phone towers. Most major providers can extend your service to Exuma for a daily fee - check with your provider for details. Many visitors download the app, WhatsApp, which is free when connected to WiFi. WhatsApp is the most common way to communicate when on island.
